"Bulletproof" Peppermint Mocha

'Tis the season for the classic holiday Peppermint Mocha! I personally enjoy this WAY more than the PSL craze. However, if you order one at Starbucks or your other favorite coffee shop it is laden with lots of sugar that will leave you feeling heavy and often tired (even though we get them to pick us up from our fatigue!).

"Bulletproof" or fat coffee is gaining traction because of its health benefits. Adding cacao and peppermint to it add even more benefits! In comparison to non-grass fed, butter from grass-fed cows contains higher amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory properties as well as vitamins A and K2 which can aid in healthy vision and vasculature, respectively. Coconut oil is thought to improve brain function and peppermint can help with digestion while invigorating the mind and senses! Cacao is a powerful antioxidant, affects emotions and mood by raising serotonin, and is a great source of magnesium.

Below you can see a breakdown of nutrients, but first I'll share my recipe. I usually just throw a bunch of stuff together, so alter amounts to satisfy your taste; it may take a while for your palate to enjoy less sweetness**!

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 tbsp grass-fed butter

1 tbsp cacao powder

1-2 drops peppermint oil

12 oz brewed coffee

----> Blend it all together until frothy and enjoy!

**If you like it a little sweeter, try 1 tbsp of Silk Vanilla Almond Milk Creamer. This will add 25 calories (9 from fat), 1 g total fat, 4 g of total carbohydrates (all sugars), and 0 g protein.
